NBMCH was originally envisioned by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy and formally established under the Govt. of West Bengal in 1968. Initially known as North Bengal University Medical College (NBUMC), it was rechristened to its present name in 1978. Since its inception, the college has played a pivotal role in bridging healthcare gaps in North Bengal and adjoining regions like Sikkim, Bihar, Assam, and Bhutan.
