The Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR), also known as Kohima Medical College, is the first and only government medical college in the state of Nagaland, India. Established in 2023, NIMSR marks a historic advancement in Nagaland’s healthcare and education sectors, addressing the long-standing need for in-state medical education.
NIMSR was officially established in 2023, with the aim of providing medical education, clinical training, and healthcare research within Nagaland.
The college received its Letter of Permission (LoP) from the National Medical Commission (NMC) in April 2023, authorizing an annual intake of 100 MBBS students.
Academic sessions for the first MBBS batch commenced in September 2023.
On 14 October 2023, the institute was inaugurated by Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, signifying a landmark moment for Nagaland. The inauguration highlighted the state's entry into India’s mainstream medical education framework — 60 years after Nagaland attained statehood.
