Kathmandu Medical College functions from two complexes - Duwakot Basic Sciences and Sinamangal Clinical Sciences. The KMC Teaching Hospital, located within the ring-road and just near the airport, is in a position of easy access. Prof. Dr. Chanda Karki, a renowned Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the country, former Departmental Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of the College and the past President of Nepal Society of obstetricians and Gynaecologist (NESOG),is the Principal. Dr. Mukund Raj Joshi,  is the Director of the KMC Teaching Hospital. Several of our teaching staffs have had considerable teaching experience in Medical Colleges in India and abroad.

KMC is permanently affiliated to Kathmandu University and fully recognized by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) and the Sri Lanka Medical Council. The working experience at KMCTH is recognized to enable doctors to sit in the postgraduate entrance examinations held by other universities inside & abroad. Kathmandu Medical College has also been listed in the WHO’s World Directory of Medical Schools - electronic format as from June 2001. Following full recognition by NMC, KMC is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). KMC is also an Associate Member of the Network of Community Based Medical Schools that has its headquarters at Ghent in Belgium. Subsequently, graduates of KMC are also eligible to apply for a California Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) or a Physicians and Surgeons Certificate from August 2012.

The eligibility criteria for MBBS admission at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) generally follow the guidelines set by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) and Kathmandu University, which oversees the college. Here are the key eligibility requirements:

• 1. Academic Qualifications:
  Higher Secondary Education (10+2 or equivalent): Candidates must have completed their 10+2 or equivalent education from a recognized board.
• Mandatory Subjects: Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in their higher secondary education.
   
• Minimum Marks: Candidates should have secured at least 50% in each of the subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) and an overall aggregate of 50% in their 10+2 or equivalent exams.
   
• 2. Entrance Examination
  Common Entrance Exam: Candidates must pass the entrance exam conducted by the Medical Education Commission (MEC) of Nepal.
  Minimum Score: A minimum qualifying score is required in the entrance exam to be eligible for MBBS admission.
   
• 3. Age Requirement
  Minimum Age: Candidates should be at least 17 years old by the time of admission.
   
• 4. Nationality
  Nepalese and International Students: Both Nepalese and international students (including Indian and SAARC nationals) are eligible to apply.
  Foreign Applicants: International students may be required to pass specific entrance exams recognized by the Medical Education Commission or have valid scores in equivalent exams (such as NEET for Indian students).
   
• 5. Additional Requirements
  Health Certificate: A medical fitness certificate may be required to ensure the candidate is in good health.
  Character Certificate: A character certificate from the last institution attended is typically required.
