Overview of Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) Kathmandu

Kathmandu Medical College functions from two complexes - Duwakot Basic Sciences and Sinamangal Clinical Sciences. The KMC Teaching Hospital, located within the ring-road and just near the airport, is in a position of easy access. Prof. Dr. Chanda Karki, a renowned Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the country, former Departmental Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of the College and the past President of Nepal Society of obstetricians and Gynaecologist (NESOG),is the Principal. Dr. Mukund Raj Joshi,  is the Director of the KMC Teaching Hospital. Several of our teaching staffs have had considerable teaching experience in Medical Colleges in India and abroad.

KMC is permanently affiliated to Kathmandu University and fully recognized by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) and the Sri Lanka Medical Council. The working experience at KMCTH is recognized to enable doctors to sit in the postgraduate entrance examinations held by other universities inside & abroad. Kathmandu Medical College has also been listed in the WHO’s World Directory of Medical Schools - electronic format as from June 2001. Following full recognition by NMC, KMC is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). KMC is also an Associate Member of the Network of Community Based Medical Schools that has its headquarters at Ghent in Belgium. Subsequently, graduates of KMC are also eligible to apply for a California Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) or a Physicians and Surgeons Certificate from August 2012.

Other fees for Indian/International Students:

  • Admission Form charge: IRs. 5,000.
  • Registration approx. Rs. 23,500 for Indian and approx. USD 400, affiliation fee approx. IRs. 62,000 and NMC Registration approx. IRs. 3200 as per respective authorities notice. Registration, Affiliation and NMC Registration Rees are one time only. This amount shall be actual as per the KU and NMC notice for the particular batch of MBBS program.
  • University exam fee as per KU rules.
  • If student fails in university exam, IRs. 14,500 has to be paid in each subject in the university re-exam beside university exam fee, logistic fee.
  • Hostel fee (excluding food) IRs. 12,000 per month (increased by 5% in every two years), in double sharing accommodation.
  • Food (breakfast, lunch, dinner) is available in approx. IRs. 5,000 to 5,500 per month at present in cafeteria.
  • Electricity and water charge in the hostel has to be paid by the student.
  • Hostel is mandatory for all international/Indians Students for whole academic course and internship. 
  • Penalty of IRs. 10 per day per IRs. 10,000 will be charged if payment is not paid within due date.

 

Note:

1. Candidate must have secured at least 50% in aggregate in 10+2 or equivalent and have passed the National Board Entrance Examination of his/her home country or of Medical Education Commission, Nepal (MEC) before admission. Rules and regulations of Medical Education Commission of Nepal, Kathmandu University and Nepal Medical Council will be the final and utmost guideline for admission process.

2. The above fee structure is only applicable to the candidate who will pre book (depositing IRs. 10,00,000) before the notice of Medical Education Commission, Nepal (MEC). After the notice of MEC for entrance of MBBS, fee structure of MEC (approx. USD 75,000 to 80,000) will be applicable.

3. As the student and parent have studied and made decision for pre booking at KMC, pre booking amount IRs. 10,00,000 is non-refundable. The pre booking amount will be refunded only in case the candidate does not get admission due to the rules and regulation of Medical Education Commission, Nepal or KMC cancels the pre booking.

The college will not charge any fee besides the fees mentioned above.
