History of Gandhi Medical College & Hospital

1851: Established as a modest infirmary with 3 wards.
1900: Upgraded to a Cantonment Hospital with 95 beds.
1913: Renamed King Edward Memorial Hospital.
1954: Gandhi Medical College founded; affiliated teaching hospital established.
1955: Inaugurated by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India.
1956: Taken over by the Government of Hyderabad State.
1958: Hospital renamed Gandhi Hospital; became a full-fledged teaching hospital.
2003: College & hospital shifted to Musheerabad (present premises).
2024-25: Hospital expanded to 2,016 beds, becoming the largest in Telangana.
